Event details

Abstract

Depression represents a pressing challenge for health care. In England, NHS Talking Therapies services provide evidence-based psychological therapies in a stepped-care approach to a large number of patients with depression. About 50% of those who come to the end of this pathway still show significant levels of symptoms. This talk will report results from a recently completed trial that investigated whether Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), a treatment combining training in mindfulness and elements of cognitive therapy, can have beneficial effects in depressed non-responders to high-intensity therapy. The study sought to establish the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of MBCT as compared to the treatment these patients would usually receive (treatment-as-usual, TAU).
